Med Legal Art (film interps)

Image
Some vignettes from a large, overview of injuries presentation. The injuries shown here include a dislocated clavicle, herniated disc, and fractured wrist. Other vignettes showcased a brain bleed, fractured ankle, and more herniated discs. (it was a lot of images to sift through!)

Med Legal Art (surgical illustration details)

Image
Some details from a series of surgical illustration boards showing the correction an epicondyle fracture.   The initial fracture was secured in place with hardware, but osteotomy and neurolysis procedures were required at later dates. —— #medicalillustration #medlegalart #medlegal #surgicalillustration #litigationgraphics #personalinjury #surgery #surgical #adobephotoshop #adobeindesign #wacomintuos #RIT #NJCU #arm #elbow #epicondyle #fracture #hardware #screws #osteotomy #neurolysis

Med Legal Art - disc herniations

Image
This collection of medical legal boards show multiple disc herniations along the spine for ONE patient (victim?). This was a fun project because I had the opportunity to learn about "Schmorl nodes"!

Med Legal Storyboard Frames (samples)

Image
Sample images from a bunch of med-legal animation storyboards. Each individual frame was accompanied by a direct quote from the operative report, directions for the animators, and notes about the tools and anatomy (these were removed for privacy purposes). The surgeries shown here are an ACDF, posterior lumbar fusion, and rotator cuff repair.

Med Legal Art - cervical disc herniations

Image
This medical legal board shows the progression of two cervical disc herniations over time (the first and second films were taken several years apart). Of course, I had to include some disc squish details!

Med Legal Storyboard Frames (samples)

Image
Each group of images was part of a med-legal animation storyboard. Each individual frame was accompanied by a direct quote from the operative report, directions for the animators, and notes about the tools and anatomy (these were removed for privacy purposes). The surgeries shown here include an ORIF of a left ankle, external fixation of a left ankle, and a cervical discectomy.

Med Legal Storyboard Frames (samples)

Image
Each group of images was part of a med-legal animation storyboard. Each individual frame was accompanied by a direct quote from the operative report, directions for the animators, and notes about the tools and anatomy (these were removed for privacy purposes). The surgeries shown here include a closed wrist reduction, brain injury, and ORIF of a right ankle.

Med Legal Storyboard Frames (samples)

Each group of images were part of a med-legal animation storyboard. Each individual frame was accompanied by a direct quote from the operative report, directions for the animators, and notes about the tools and anatomy (these were removed for privacy purposes). The surgeries shown here include a kyphoplasty, femoral fracture fixation, knee brace placement, and repair of a facial laceration.

Med Legal Storyboard Frames (samples)

Each group of images were part of a med-legal animation storyboard. Each individual frame was accompanied by a direct quote from the operative report, directions for the animators, and notes about the tools and anatomy (these were removed for privacy purposes). The surgeries shown here include a hip arthroscopy, open wrist reduction, posterolateral lumbar fixation, and anterior cervical fusion.

Med Legal Art - cervical discectomy

Image
This medical legal board features cervical discectomies at the C3/4 and C4/5 levels. Interbody devices and a cervical plate were placed and fixed to the bone once the herniated disc material was removed.

Med Legal Art - wrist arthroscopy and surgery

Image
These medical legal boards feature a wrist arthroscopy surgery and colored interpretations of the wrist injuries for use in a personal injury case (some details from the surgical repair are at the end; I thought they came out pretty good).

Med Legal Art - multiple disc herniation boards

Image
These medical legal boards feature colored medical films of numerous cervical and lumbar disc herniations for a single medical injury case. Each layout includes a flat-graphic orientation image to give jurors familiarity with the area being scanned. The legal art boards have the original medical films and their colored interpretations.

Med Legal Art - multiple injuries and corrections

Image
These medical legal boards feature colored medical films of numerous herniations and surgeries for a single personal injury case. Each layout includes a flat-graphic orientation image to give jurors familiarity with the area being scanned or operated on. The medical film boards have the original medical film and a colored interpretation of the film; the surgical boards display the steps involved in correcting the injury.

Molecular Pathway for Virus Entry

Image
This molecular illustration shows the membrane-bound proteins involved in the uptake of a virus particle into the cell. Reading from left to right, the arrows show how the proteins pass the virus down the line until it reaches the final protein that will trigger the endocytosis.

Rotavirus Anatomy

Image
This scientific illustration inset (from a larger poster) shows the anatomy of a rotavirus particle. The different capsids that surround the RNA strands are isolated and positioned within a flat, gray virus shape to show their relevant size and position within the complete virus.

Med Legal Art - Disc Herniation Boards

Image
These illustrations are colored interpretations of cervical and lumbar disc herniations from MRI films for 2 different patients (or plaintiffs). The layouts include flat-graphic orientation images to give viewers familiarity with the level of the scans, the original MRI (cropped to the injury), and digital paintings to highlight the areas of interest.

Glucose-stimulated Insulin Secretion

Image
This molecular illustration shows the components involved in the release of insulin from a pancreatic beta-cell during a period of elevated glucose-levels. The insulin molecules will go on to bind to insulin-receptors on other cells that allow glucose to enter and be used for energy.

Medial View of Raccoon Mandible

Image
This image is half of a raccoon mandible that was recovered in marshes along the Georgia coast. Nerve innervation and arterial supply for the teeth can be seen entering through the mandibular foramen. A section of the body has been removed to reveal the structures in the mandibular canal. The sample is missing the incisors.

Membrane-Attack Complex (MAC)

Image
This molecular illustration shows the steps involved in building the ‘membrane-attack complex’ (MAC) during an immune response against an invading bacterium. A transmembrane channel is formed when up to 16 C9 molecules are added, thus disrupting the outer membrane (the complete pore was halved for the sake of the illustration).
