Molecular illustration for Pharmaceutical presentation




This illustration was part of a proposal for a pharmaceutical company’s presentation. The illustration shows molecules in the extracellular space hovering over proteins that are embedded in a lipid bilayer. There are visuals underneath the proteins to symbolize the actions that occur downstream when the molecules bind to their receptors.

In the ‘normal’ scenario, the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (or cholinesterase) breaks down the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine. In the clinical scenario, the pesticide inhibits the enzyme from working properly, thus leading to an accumulation of acetylcholine. The build-up can cause over-stimulation of nerves, muscles, and glands.
