This infographic compares the normal condition of neuron-muscle communication, and the clinical condition of myasthenia gravis. The images show the molecular and cellular components involved with each circumstance.
This infographic compares the molecular similarities between smoking addiction and quit-smoking medications. In short, they both cause the release of dopamine (a neurotransmitter); the effects on health come down to how the body obtains the initial molecules to start the release.
This image, sized for a science journal, shows one effect of chlorpyrifos on the human body, particularly in the nervous system. In the ‘normal’ scenario, the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (or cholinesterase) breaks down the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine. In the clinical scenario, the pesticide inhibits the enzyme from working properly, thus leading to an accumulation of acetylcholine. The build-up can cause over-stimulation of nerves, muscles, and glands.
